Naomi Osaka and LeBron James named Athletes of the year by the AP

This year has been particulary turbulent on all fronts. Particulary in the field of sports, where numerous preventive actions have been carried out to raise awareness of current political and health events.
Following this, Naomi Osaka, a Japanses tennis player and Lebron James, the famous American basketball player, both received the Associated Press Award for Female and Male Athlete of the Year, noted for their activism on and off the court.
Naomi Osaka spoke openly about the socio-economic effects of the current pandemic and the many political injustices committed this year. She has been able to use her exploits and her agenda to shine a spotlight on people who are victims of racial inquality. During the U.S Open, she arrived at each match wearing a mask with the names of black victims of violence, including George Floyd, Tamir Rice and Philando Castile.
NBA champion LeBron James won the title for the fourth time. He is not only a great leader but also led many initiatives off the ground. His organization, More Than A Vote, brought together more than 42,000 volunteers, highlighting the large turnout of black and young voters.
These actions by sportsmen and women are becoming more and more active in the fight against social injustices and raising public awareness.
